Director of Finance & Corporate Services

APPLICATIONS FOR THIS ROLE ARE NOW CLOSED.

In common with many charities which provide face to face services, we were severely affected by the pandemic and lockdowns. This led us to address a number of structural financial challenges in the financial year 2021/22, which are detailed in our Annual Report. With the successful resolution of these issues, our financial position is stable and positive.

The finance function is stable and performs at a consistently high level on both transactional and strategic levels. There are close relationships with the wider organisation, and the finance team provides advice and support on projects, business planning and business case preparation, as well as contract renewal and new business. Digital is a major part of our business, and an increasing amount of our work is conducted via telemedicine. As a result, our IT function is business critical, 24/7. Tailoring our service to the requirements of individual NHS bodies requires us to be responsive, and it’s likely that the IT team will need to grow in the coming year. With over fifty premises owned, leased or rented across the country, our estates function is steady, but property has inherent risks of which our new Director needs to be actively aware.

We are looking for candidates who have the complete finance professional toolkit: audit, financial planning, budgets and management reporting, systems and governance. However, the role’s additional responsibilities mean that some understanding of IT and estates will be a definite asset, as would a track record of generating and using high-quality business information in governance and decision-making. Because BPAS provides services for the NHS, candidates with experience of NHS financial standards and requirements would be of particular interest. But the wider corporate leadership role mustn’t be overlooked – the successful candidates will need to be a skilled senior executive, able to advise senior colleagues with clarity and concision, and operate at a strategic and board level with ease and confidence.

In this vital leadership role, you will provide strategic financial leadership and delivery, and be accountable for the provision of clear, accurate management information to the Board (and relevant sub-committees). As part of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), you will play an active role in maintaining a financially viable position for the organisation, and will additionally provide executive oversight and strategic leadership in IT, Estates & Procurement.
